A little more than three hours from Cape Town, you’ll arrive at what feels like your own private sanctuary, as the call of the resident fish eagle welcomes you home. With its rolling green lawn tiered into the surrounding hills, wandering pathways, and shady seating spots, the villa offers a serene escape.
Tranquil lookout points are perfectly positioned to take in the magnificent views of the river and its surrounding landscape, making it the ideal retreat for you and your family to relax, unwind, and create special, lifelong memories—experiences that will make it difficult to ever leave.
This incredible location, sitting directly upon the fold of the crescent, offers unparalleled privacy, instant access to the water, and spectacular views. The property now stands completely independently while still retaining the signature stone walls—which took two years to clad—that seamlessly blend into the landscape.
Many elements of the home have been restored and preserved as original design features, despite a new generation moving in. The home has consciously retained its existing footprint, as well as the famous “Eel Bar.”
Of the seven spacious bedrooms, some are Kings and others are Queens. There is also a fun bunk room for the kids to enjoy, and a separate cottage with two additional bedrooms.
As much as the beautiful interior spaces create a sense of warmth and inspiration—with their lovely open areas, refined style, and inimitable comfort—it’s the outdoors that greatly enhance the overall experience of the property. The connection to the outside leads to a large deck where the “Kol Kol” sits, and loungers and comfy outdoor seating are scattered around to maximize the views of the expansive garden. The fabulous bar features a dart board, and there’s a pizza oven and fire pit for perfect, still evenings beside the water, watching the boats go by. The elevated deck creates the feeling of resting on a pontoon.
There is so much to do on the river that the list of activities is endless. For water enthusiasts, options include wakeboarding, waterskiing, canoeing, SUPing, fishing, and, of course, swimming. You can also visit the jumping rock for a bit of kloofing into the water or enjoy a drink and catch up with the locals at the Bush Pub. Additionally, there are many nature trails to explore, complete with a bird book and a hat. There’s something for everyone, whatever pace you prefer.
